- upper class men and women wore a paludamentum (tunic and cloak)
- 11th century braught added decorations and silks
- undergarments (braies for men, chemise for women) were introduced
- 12th century-tunics were fitted
- 13th century-tunics were loose again
- cape was a common outdoor garment
